Convert a Line
Use the Convert a Line option to write operations in the estimating system differently than the way you plan to actually perform them. For example, two situations that would require this are as follows:
- Mechanical operations that will be sublet
- Alignments written as sublet, when in fact they will be performed by a technician in-house
The Convert a Line option allows you to change:
- Parts into labor hours
- Labor hours into sublet
- Labor hours into parts
(To convert parts to sublet, see Ordering Parts.)
Note: Lines can only be converted or unconverted if no costs have yet been associated with them.
Note: It is not recommended to convert Labor only line. It might have adverse effect in the accountings.
How to

- On the Whiteboard, double-click the repair order. Click the Repair tab; the Lines tab is open by default.
- Highlight the line to be converted, then click the Convert Line button. The Line Conversion dialog box appears.
- Select or enter the appropriate information to convert in the Line Conversion box.
- Click the Convert button.
- Click Yes in the confirmation message.
- After a successful conversion, the line will change to this color.

A line can also be converted to a sublet. Since you can convert only an entire line with this procedure, if there is a part on the line along with the labor, you must convert that cost as well. If the part must stay classified as a part, go back to the estimating system and add another line so that the part and the labor are on separate lines.
- On the Whiteboard, double-click the repair order. Click the Repair tab; the Lines tab is open by default.
- Highlight the line to be converted, then click Convert Line. The Line Conversion dialog box appears.
- In the Convert to Parts area, in the Part Type field, select Sublet from the list. The dollar amount conversion is done automatically.
- Click Yes in the confirmation message.
- After a successful conversion, the line will change to this color
- To post a sublet invoice, select the Sublet tab. The line appears in the list so you can post the sublet invoice.

If a line is converted in error, you can reverse the process. This is possible only if the line has no costs associated with it. Once the line is un-converted, it will return to its original state.
- On the Whiteboard, double-click the repair order. Click the Repair tab; the Lines tab is open by default.
- If the entire line was converted, it will appear in the Lines tab. Highlight the line to be un-converted. The Convert Line button changes to UnConvert Line when a converted line is highlighted.
- Click the UnConvert Line button.
- Click Yes in the confirmation dialog box.

See Repair Lines for other functionality of the Repair > Lines tab.
Reference

Tax on Converted Lines: On some screens and reports that provide summary tax information, the tax amount associated with the converted line may appear as Add’l Tax. When you add the Tax amount to the Add’l Tax amount, the total Tax is accurate and will transfer to your accounting system as a lump sum rather than separated as it shows in RepairCenter.
No Partial Lines: You may not convert partial lines in the Repair > Lines tab, such as labor deducted for Repair and Install (R & I) glass that includes the windshield. Using the Convert a Line option described above, you are able to convert only the entire line. (See Glass Replacement Operation for further information.)
Adjusting Sales Totals: The only area of RepairCenter that the converting lines functionality should be used in is Repair > Lines. The conversions in this tab will adjust the sales totals to reflect the change. With Labor, Parts, and Sublet, when the convert option is used, the sale totals do not adjust. These tabs adjust the sales totals when the “Types” are changed. If your shop is not using an accounting interface, it will not make as much of an impact if you do convert lines in areas other than Repair > Lines; however, it is not recommended.

Prior to conversion: Sale total = Labor 16.5 hours x $52.00 = $858.00
A repair order has 16.5 repair hours, but you need to convert 1.3 of these hours into sublet for R & I glass. The body labor rate is $52.00 per hour. In the estimating system, you would enter two additional lines: one for R & I Glass positive 1.3 hours and another for R & I Glass negative 1.3. hours. When you return to RepairCenter, go to Repair > Lines and convert the positive 1.3 hours to sublet. The technician will be assigned 15.2 hours (16.5 – 1.3).
After conversion: Sale total = Labor 15.2 hours X $52.00 = $790.40
Sublet 1.3 hours X $52.00 = $ 67.60
Total Sales = $858.00
