Vehicle ID

Use the Vehicle ID tab to enter a description of the vehicle. Most of the information can be decoded automatically from the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). If you do not have the VIN, the information can be selected manually. As information is entered, the program searches the vehicle database for matching entries. If more information is needed to find the matching record, you will be prompted to resolve the information.

The information entered on the Vehicle ID tab appears on the Total Loss Inspection Worksheet and Valuation Report. For more information, see the Reference section below.

Data Entry Tips

  • Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
  • Try using the TAB key to move from one field to the next.
  • Try using keyboard shortcuts (when applicable) for commands and buttons.
  • If you make an invalid entry, the field will turn red and you will be prompted to correct the entry.

 

To complete the Vehicle ID information

  1. On the ID tab under VIN, do one of the following:
  2. Enter the VIN and click Decode.

    Note:
    For VIN Decode to work, you must have a valid Vehicle Location Zip/Postal Code for the loss vehicle.
     
  3. Select the VIN Not Available option.  Then, starting with Vehicle Type, select the entry for each required field that applies to the vehicle.
  1. If at any point multiple database records are found for the vehicle, the Resolve Ambiguous Vehicle IDs window appears so you can choose the one that matches the vehicle.
  2. Under Vehicle Information, enter the Mileage and complete the License Plate and Expiration information, if available.
  3. Under Vehicle Location, enter the ZIP/Postal Code of the place where the vehicle is stored or garaged.
  4. To continue, click the Equipment tab.

VIN

Select this option if you know the Vehicle Identification Number. Then, enter the number and click Decode to automatically complete the Vehicle Identification.  If more information is needed, you will be prompted to Resolve Ambiguous Vehicle IDs.  

VIN Not Available

Select this option if you do not know the VIN. Then, continue to the Vehicle Identification section and select each item in sequence.

Vehicle Identification

 

Vehicle Type *

Select the type of vehicle from the list.

Year *

Select the vehicle year from the list.

Make *

Select the vehicle manufacturer from the list.

Model *

Select the vehicle model from the list of those available from the manufacturer.

Sub-Model *

Select the vehicle sub-model from the list of those available from the manufacturer for the specified model.

Note: Selections made here also appear selected, as applicable, on the NADA and Automobile Red Book tabs.

Body Style *

Select the vehicle body style from the list of those available for the specified sub-model and model.

Engine *

Select the vehicle engine from the list of those available for the specified model, sub-model, and body style.

Note: Selections made here also appear selected, as applicable, on the NADA and Automobile Red Book tabs.

Transmission *

Select the vehicle transmission from the list of those available for the specified model, sub-model, body style, and engine.

Drive Train *

Select the drive train from the list of those available for the specified model, sub-model, body style, engine, and transmission.

Note: Selections made here also appear selected, as applicable, on the NADA and Automobile Red Book tabs.

Vehicle Information

 

Mileage *

Enter the vehicle mileage, if known.

Mileage Unknown

Select Unknown if you do not know the vehicle mileage.

Exterior Color

Select the color of the vehicle from the list.

License Plate

Enter the license plate number of the vehicle.

License Plate State/Province

Select the State or Province where the license plate was issued.

License Expiration

 

 

Month
Select the month of the vehicle registration expiration.

 

Year
Select the year of the vehicle registration expiration.

Vehicle Location

 

Zip/Postal Code

Verify or enter the ZIP/Postal code where the vehicle is garaged or stored.

Important
: If you change the Zip/Postal Code entered here, you will be required to re-configure the vehicle on the Vehicle ID tab.

PIN

PIN information for the selected vehicle appears in this location.

PIN Typical Mileage

Typical mileage information for the selected vehicle appears in this location. Typical mileage is based on the vehicle PIN.

N.A.D.A.

N.A.D.A. information for the selected vehicle appears in this location.

US Red Book

US Red Book information for the selected vehicle appears in this location.

 


Click Decode to automatically complete the Vehicle Identification from the VIN. If more information is needed, you will be prompted to Resolve Ambiguous Vehicle IDs.

Click Edit to open the Resolve Ambiguous Vehicle IDs to edit the displayed additional vehicle information.
