Vehicle ID
Use the Vehicle ID tab to enter a description of the vehicle. Most of the information can be decoded automatically from the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). If you do not have the VIN, the information can be selected manually. As information is entered, the program searches the vehicle database for matching entries. If more information is needed to find the matching record, you will be prompted to resolve the information.
The information entered on the Vehicle ID tab appears on the Total Loss Inspection Worksheet and Valuation Report. For more information, see the Reference section below.
Data Entry Tips
- Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
- Try using the TAB key to move from one field to the next.
- Try using keyboard shortcuts (when applicable) for commands and buttons.
- If you make an invalid entry, the field will turn red and you will be prompted to correct the entry.
To complete the Vehicle ID information
- On the ID tab under VIN, do one of the following:
- Enter the VIN
and click Decode.
Note: For VIN Decode to work, you must have a valid Vehicle Location Zip/Postal Code for the loss vehicle.
- Select the VIN Not Available option. Then, starting with Vehicle Type, select the entry for each required field that applies to the vehicle.
- If at any point multiple database records are found for the vehicle, the Resolve Ambiguous Vehicle IDs window appears so you can choose the one that matches the vehicle.
- Under Vehicle Information, enter the Mileage and complete the License Plate and Expiration information, if available.
- Under Vehicle Location, enter the ZIP/Postal Code of the place where the vehicle is stored or garaged.
- To continue, click the Equipment tab.
