Application Access – The Security Groups Tab

Use the Security Groups tab to manage security groups.

This tab includes 10 default security groups, and you can create new ones.

Note: The default groups cannot be edited or deleted (users can be added to them).

A security group is a set of permissions to various functions and features. Once a security group is established, you can assign users to it. When a permission is enabled for a group, everyone in the group gets that permission.

There are three types of permissions you can assign:

  • Application Permissions control access to the various features and functions available throughout RepairCenter.
  • Report Permissions control access to RepairCenter reports.
  • Add On Permissions control access to ToolStore, RepairCenter Mobile, and other add-on modules.

How to

Create a new security group by one of two methods: Closedcopy an existing group or Closedstart from scratch.

  1. On the toolbar, click the More menu list at the top right; then select Configuration.
  2. Click the Application Access tab, and then click the Security Groups tab.
  3. On the Security Groups tab, click to select the group you want to copy, and then click Copy.
  4. In the Group Name box, type a name for the new group.
  • In the Description box, you can type a description of the group.

  1. Click Create. The group appears on the Security Groups list.

    Note: The new group has the same permissions as the copied group. Steps 6 through 10 describe how to modify these permissions. If you want to leave the permissions intact, the task to create a new security group is now complete.

  2. Click to select the group.

  3. On the Application Permissions tab, select or clear the appropriate check boxes.
  • To narrow the list of permissions, select in the Show list a category to filter by, and then click Apply Filter.
  1. To assign permissions for reports access, click the Report Permissions tab and select or clear the appropriate check boxes.
  • To narrow the list of reports, select in the Show list a category to filter by, and then click Apply Filter.
  1. To assign permissions for add-on modules, click the Add On Permissions tab and select or clear the appropriate check boxes.
  • To narrow the list of modules, select in the Provider list a module provider to filter by, and then click Apply Filter.
  1. When you're finished making modifications, click Update to save your work.
  1. On the toolbar, click the More menu list at the top right; then select Configuration.
  2. Click the Application Access tab, and then click the Security Groups tab.
  3. On the Security Groups tab, click New.
  4. In the Group Name box, type a name for the group.
  • In the Description box, you can type a description of the group.
  1. Click Create. The group appears on the Security Groups list.

  2. Click to select the group.

  3. On the Application Permissions tab, select the check box of each permission you want the group to have.

  2. Click the Application Access tab, and then click the Security Groups tab.

  3. On the Security Groups tab, click to select the group you want to delete.

  4. Click Delete.
  5. In the confirmation message, click Yes to confirm the deletion.
  1. On the toolbar, click the More menu list at the top right; then select Configuration.
  2. Click the Application Access tab. The Application Access tab opens to the Employees tab.
  1. On the Employees tab, click to select the user you want to assign.
  2. At the bottom of the window, click the Permissions tab.

  3. On the Permissions tab, select the check box of the security group that includes the appropriate permissions.

    Warning: Select only one check box. RepairCenter may allow you to select multiple check boxes, but one set of permissions will overwrite another, blocking the user's access to some functions and features.

  4. Click the Update button to save your work.
