NAGS® TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS AS USED IN NAGS® CATALOGS AND CALCULATORS

(2) or (Two) = There are two locations that use the same glass part

(93-95) = Part is used from 1993 through 1995

(93-95) (To 11/30/94) = Part is used from 1993 through early 1995 up to 11/30/94 production

(95-98) (From 12/1/94) = Part is used from 1995 from 12/1/94 production through 1998

(93-95) (To 000500) = Part is used from 1993 through 1995 up to Serial No. 000500 (last 6 digits of VIN)

(95-98) (From 000501) = Part is used from 1995 from Serial No. 000501(last 6 digits of VIN) through 1998

14" lead = Back glass defroster has 14 inch electrical lead

146" WB = 146 inch wheel base - the distance from the center of the front wheel to the center of the rear wheel

150 W = 150 watts

16 Grids = Electrical defroster grid is composed of 16 lines on a back glass

2 Dr = Two door body style

2WD = Two wheel drive vehicle

3 Panel = Slider is composed of three lites of glass

4" Band = Paint band is 4 inches wide

4 Dr = Four door body style

4 Panel = Slider is composed of four lites of glass

4WD = Four wheel drive vehicle

5 Leads = Glass has 5 electrical terminals

Acoustic Interlayer = Laminated glass which has a special interlayer (PVB) that enhances sound insulation properties

Adaptive Cruise Control = Also referred to as "Smart" Cruise Control. A sensor usually mounted on the Windshield senses traffic ahead and turns the cruise control off

AGR = Automotive Glass Replacement

AGRSS = Auto Glass Replacement Safety Standards Council

AHBC Sensor = Automatic High Beam Control Sensor. Also Known as Smart Beam Headlamp System. Turns on high beams when no other vehicle traffic is present, and reverts back to low beams when detecting headlamps of oncoming vehicles and tail lamps

ANSI = American National Standards Institute

Ant = Antenna in the glass

Anti-theft = Vehicle is equipped with anti-theft device and/or laminated tempered glass

ARG = Automotive Replacement Glass

Assy = Assembly - Glass comes with components

Asymmetrically Strengthened = A windshield manufacturing process in which a layer of PVB is sandwiched between a thicker outer layer of glass and a thinner inner layer of glass, resulting in a structurally stronger windshield

Auto Cancel = Heating element shuts off automatically

Auto-Dim Mirror = Also known as Electrochromic or Prismatic Mirror, a rear view mirror that senses light and automatically dims and/or incorporates compass or temperature displays

Auto Sliding Door = Power sliding side door

AWD = All wheel drive vehicle

B; Back; Backlite = Back glass

Blk = Black

Blk Frm = Black frame

Band = The painted border around the perimeter of the glass

Band to Mirror = Paint band extends from top of windshield to rear-view mirror area

Black Band = Glass has black paint border

Bonus Cab = Pickup truck body style name

Bolt-in = A type of installation procedure; glass in a metal frame having studs for attachment

Border = Paint band around perimeter of glass

Bracket = Mirror button

Bright = Shiny or chrome surface

Bug = A glsss manufacturer's logo or brand etched into or painted onto the glass

Button = An attachment on the interior surface of a WS used to mount the Rear View Mirror

Cabover = Body style name for a Medium Duty truck

Can; CDN = Canada

Carry-Up = A vehicle that has not changed from the previous year to the new model year

CCC-Compliant = Means the glass is certified for the United States and China.

Cell Phone Antenna Mount = The base or bracket for a cell phone antenna which comes on the glass

Chrm = Chrome

Chrm Frm = Chrome frame

Clip = Clip(s) hold glass or moulding in place

Club Cab = Body style name for Pickup

Cold Climate Spec = Additional options such as High Amp defroster or Heated Windshield

Collision Warning System = A camera mounted on the roof interior detects an impending collision and prepares the vehicle safety systems for deployment

Condensation Sensor = A sensor usually mounted on the Windshield which detects the presence of condensation and turns the defogger on.

Conv = Convertible - two-door body style

Conventional Cab = Body style name for Heavy Duty or Medium Duty truck

Coolant Heated, Bottom Edge = Windshield has a metal tube soldered along the bottom. Coolant runs through the tube for de-icing the Windshield, creating a Heated Wiper Park Area

Coupe = Two-door body style

Crew Cab = Body style name for Pickup

Cube = Cargo box added to van chassis

DB = Domestic back glass (NAGS number prefix)

DD = Domestic door glass (NAGS number prefix)

Delamination = Term describing glass which separates from the vinyl layer of laminated glass

Diversity Antenna = A glass antenna which works with other antennas on the vehicle to find the strongest signal for radio reception

DL = Domestic flat windshield (NAGS number prefix)

Dot Matrix Shade = The traditional gradient shade band in the laminate is replaced by a dot matrix frit across the top of the windshield

D.O.T. Number = Code number in the "bug" or brand logo, issued by the US Dept of Transportation, which identifies the manufacturer of the part

DP = Domestic partition (NAGS number prefix)

DQ = Domestic quarter glass (NAGS number prefix)

DR = Domestic roof (NAGS number prefix)

DS = Domestic side glass (NAGS number prefix)

DT = Domestic flat non-windshield

Note: This may be either a tempered or laminated part; the "T" does not stand for "tempered" (NAGS number prefix)

DV = Domestic vent glass (NAGS number prefix)

DW = Domestic windshield (NAGS number prefix)

E-Mark = Glass which has an E-mark also meets European Economic Community standards

Elec = Electric

Elec w/tape drive = Power window with a "tape drive" regulator

Electrochromic Mirror = Also known as Auto-Dim or Prismatic Mirror, a rear view mirror that senses light and automatically dims. Also can incorporate compass or temperature displays

Encapsulation = Injection Moulding around the perimeter of the glass

Export Only = Not for use in North American market vehicles

Extended Cab = Body style name for Pickup

FB = Foreign back glass (NAGS number prefix)

FD = Foreign door glass (NAGS number prefix)

FL = Foreign flat windshield (NAGS number prefix)

Flat = Glass part has no curvature

Flush Mount = Glass is installed flush with outside of vehicle body

Fly Screen = Vehicle is equipped with screen(s) in window(s)

FMVSS = Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards

Foam Core Butyl Tape = a non-structural sealant with a butyl surface over a compressible foam core used to seal mechanically fastened windows

Formal = A type of vinyl top

FQ = Foreign quarter glass (NAGS number prefix)

FR = Foreign roof glass (NAGS number prefix)

Frit = The painted border around the perimeter of the glass

Frm = Frame

F or Frt = Front

FS = Foreign side glass (NAGS number prefix)

FT = Foreign flat non-windshield Note: this may be either a tempered or laminated part; the "T" does not stand for "tempered" (NAGS number prefix)

Full Width = Glass extends the full width of the back

FV = Foreign vent glass (NAGS number prefix)

FW = Foreign windshield (NAGS number prefix)

FWD = Front wheel drive vehicle

F/D = Front door glass

F/Q = Front quarter glass

F/S = Front side glass

F/V = Front vent glass

Gasket = The rubber moulding that surrounds a piece of glass for installation into a vehicle - also called Weatherstrip

GDO = Garage Door Opener

GPS = Global Positioning System

Gray Band = Glass has gray paint border

Half Roof/Carriage = Half of the roof has a carriage type or half vinyl top

Hardtop = Body style which has no B-pillar

Hatchback = Body style with a hinged hatch opening into the passenger compartment, rather than a trunk

HD = Heavy duty (high-wattage defroster heating element)

Heated Wiper Park Area = Windshield contains heater grids across the lower part of the glass

High Beam Sensor = AHBC Sensor (Automatic High Beam Control Sensor). Also known as Smart Beam Headlamp System. Turns onhigh beams when no other vehicle traffic is present, and reverts back to low beams when detecting headlamps of oncoming vehicles and tail lamps

High Gloss = Shiny finish paint

High Hat = Body style of truck with higher roof than standard

High Mount Brake Light = Vehicle has 3rd brake light in rear window

High Modulus = An adhesive which provides extra strength to resist torsional twisting

Hl = Hole(s)

Homelink = HomeLink® system controls can replace up to three remote-control devices, such as GDO or home security system. There is usually a difference in the upper paint band or 3rd Visor

Htd = Heated

HUD, Head-Up Display = Technology in which vehicles' instrument readings are projected onto the windshield, which uses a special laminate

Hydrophobic Coating = A water resistant coating applied to glass

Infrared = A term used to describe Solar Coated glass - see "Solar Coated"

Infrared Interlayer = Glass that has a solar control vinyl laminate (PVB) which absorbs infrared rays but does not block communication signals

Inner = Inner part location

Innershield = Windshield with an anti-lacerative clear vinyl layer bonded to the inside surface

Insulated = A term used to describe Solar Coated glass - see "Solar Coated"

Inter Wiper = Intermittent wiper - Technology which allows the wipers to engage at variable speeds

Interchange = Where two or more parts will work in place of one another

Interlayer = A sheet of PVB which, when sandwiched between two or more pieces of glass, produces a single unit

Keyless Entry = glass contains an antenna wire which senses the power door lock actuator (remote)

Kit Install = Moulding and/or hardware needed for installation

Laminated = Safety glass which is made up of a layer of PVB vinyl is sandwiched between two or more pieces of glass and bonded to produce a single unit

Landau = A type of vinyl top

Lane Departure Warning System = A camera or sensors which identify that the vehicle is drifting into the next lane without using the turn signal, and warns you of the impending lane change

LDWS = Lane Departure Warning System

Laser Deletion Area = A solar coated glass that has a small area without coating to allow lasers to work through the glass

Leading Edge = The edge of the glass that faces toward the front of the vehicle

Leads on Bottom = Wires to defroster grid go to leads at bottom of glass

Leads on Top = Wires to defroster grid go to leads at top of glass

Light Sensor = A sensor usually located on the windshield that senses the absence of light and turns the headlights on

Limo = Limousine

Lite = A single pane of glass

Louver Type = Glass has louvers on it

Low Gloss = Satin or flat finish paint

LWB = Long wheel base

Lower = Lower part location

M = Middle

Manual = Not electrically powered

Med Duty = Medium duty model

Mexico Only = This vehicle is only available for sale in Mexico

Mirror button = Rear View Mirror Bracket

Mldg, Moulding = A trim piece or pieces which surround a piece of glass, used to fill an opening between the body and glass, or as ornamental trim

Modular = Glass part has a moulding or assembly attached to it

Mov Insert = Movable part of an assembly

Movable = Opens either by sliding or is hinged and latched

NGA = National Glass Association

Night Vision = An infrared camera mounted on the vehicle which detects objects further ahead than the headlights, and displays the images on a section of the windshield

Non-Conductive = An adhesive which prevents the flow of electricity from the body to the glass

Non-Reusable Part = A part that cannot be removed and re-installed without being destroyed

Notchback = Body style with a trunk

OE or OEM = Original Equipment Manufacturer

Outer = Outer part location

PAAS System = Pre-Applied Adhesive System - a bead of urethane that is applied to the inside border of the glass, usually in the shape of an underside moulding, which requires a special "activator" for installation

Paint Band = The painted border around the perimeter of the glass

Paint To Match = Glass has a body panel or moulding attached that comes primed and needs to be painted the body color of the vehicle

Panoramic Glass Roof = A large "sunroof" usually made up of 1 or more glass panels

Partition = A divider between the front seat area and the back seat area, common in limousines

Phone Ant = Equipped with phone antenna in glass

Pigtail; Clip; Spade = Types of back glass defroster connectors

Pinchweld = The metal flange around the opening in a vehicle where glass is to be installed.

Porthole = Round side or quarter glass

Prcl Del = Parcel delivery - a body style of van

Prismatic = Also known as Auto-Dim or Electrochromic Mirror, a rear view mirror that senses light and automatically dims and/or incorporates compass or temperature displays

Qtr = Quarter glass

Quad Cab = Body style name for Pickup

R or Rr = Rear

R-L = Right and left

Rain Sensor = A sensor usually located on the windshield that senses rain and turns the wipers on

Rain/Light Sensor = A sensor usually located on the windshield that senses rain and turns the wipers on, and also senses the absence of light and turns the headlights on

Rear A/C = Vehicle has auxiliary air conditioning in rear area (usually vans)

Remote Start = Option which allows you to start the vehicle from outside the vehicle. Utilizes a button on the power door lock actuator (remote)

Rope-in = A type of installation procedure, for glass installed with a gasket

RWD = Rear wheel drive vehicle

R/D = Rear door glass

R/Q = Rear quarter glass

R/S = Rear side glass

R/V = Rear vent glass

Secure Shield = A proprietary term used to describe Laminated Tempered glass

Sedan = Body style which has a B-pillar

Slider = Sliding back glass

Smart Beam Headlamp System = Turns on high beams when no other vehicle traffic is present, and reverts back to low beams when detecting headlamps of oncoming vehicles or tail lamps

Snap Pin = A two-piece pin used to mount a door glass to a regulator. The outer piece goes into a hole in the glass, then the inner piece is "forced" in to it, tightening the pin in the hole.

Solar, Solar Absorbing = Solar glass - filters UV and infrared rays reducing sun damage to the interior

Solar Coated = During the manufacturing process, the inside surface of the outer layer of glass is coated with an infrared reflective coating before the interlayer (PVB) is sandwiched between the outer and inner layers of glass. Reflects infrared rays, reducing heat load to the air conditioner and thus improving fuel efficiency and reducing sun damage to the interior, but tends to block communication signals (except where deletion windows are located)

Spoiler = Vehicle has a rear air deflector on the trunk or liftgate

Standard Cab = Body style name for Pickup

Stationary = Does not open - fixed

Super Cab = Body style name for Pickup

SWB = Short wheel base

Tempered = Glass which has been through a heating and cooling process which strengthens the part. Also causes the part to break into small pieces when broken

Third Visor Frit = The portion of the black ceramic frit that comes down from the top center of the WS down to or below the rear view mirror

Upper = Upper part location

Urethane = An adhesive system used for glass installations which retains or enhances the structural integrity of the vehicle

V.I.N. Notch = An opening in the paint band which exposes the Vehicle Identification Number plate

Wiper hole = Hole in glass for rear wiper

W/Alarm = Vehicle is equipped with alarm

W/AM/FM Antenna = Glass has radio antenna

W/Bracket = Windshield has rear view mirror button attached

W/Navigation = Vehicle has a Navigation System

W/S, Windshield = The front window of a vehicle, which is made of laminated glass

W/Strip, Weatherstrip = The rubber moulding that surrounds a piece of glass for installation into a vehicle - also called Gasket
