Add Parts and Labor (Repair Lines) to Estimate

1. In the Parts or Split View tab of Mitchell Cloud Estimating, search for parts in the search bar or select a vehicle area and part (for example, Front Bumper). If your search terms do not match any repair lines, you will see a No results were found message.

   Procedure page (P-page): Information is available for some components or categories. The P-page link is below the part.

   

2. Select the part or number in the diagram for the part. You can also double-click the part or the number to view the details.
• To view the diagram larger for more detail, click the arrow icon below the graphic.

  

  Alternatively, click the + or - icons above the parts graphic to enlarge the images

  

3. Click a labor icon to select the labor operation for the part. This will determine the correct labor times and costs for the labor operation.
   • R&R - Remove/Replace
   • R&I - Remove/Install
   • Repair
   • Blend
   • PDR - Paintless Dent Repair

   

4. Select the line for a part to display the part description, labor type, labor units, part type, and more.
   • If there is more than one option for a part (for example, various models or sizes, right side, left side, etc.), you will see View Details on the parts list instead of a price for the part.

   Note for Part Assemblies: To include the labor for a part assembly (Assy), select Remove and Replace (R&R) for the assembly and add the necessary parts to the estimate. The parts you add will have the labor units marked as INC (included) and the price set to zero. You can edit the part as needed.

   

5. To modify the refinish labor, type the Total Units for the operation.
6. Click More and add any additional recommended operations.
7. Click Add Line to add the line to the estimate or click Select All to add all available lines to the estimate.

The repair line is added to the estimate along with the refinish line and any recommended lines selected.

Parts, Templates, and Reference Sheets can be searched for using the Search box for a new or existing estimate. Once a part is selected from the list, the part details section automatically appears with default values which can be added to the current estimate.

1. On a new or existing Estimate, navigate to the Split View or Parts tab.

2. Click anywhere inside the Search parts, templates, ref sheet box. The Search data grid appears.

   

3. Type the desired part, template, or reference sheet name into the Search box. Click the search icon or press Enter.

   A spinner displays while the search criteria is being found in the database. Once retrieved, the data grid populates with filtered results for the Description, Source, Line Barcode, Part Number, and Price columns.

   Tip: Many categories have the same Part Name, Source, Line Barcode, Part Number, and Price. Use the categories and sub-categories in gray to ensure the correct part is selected from the search results list.

4. Select the desired line. The Parts Detail Page appears. Configure the default labor values as desired.

5. When completed, select Add Line.

1. Click on the part you need to add to the estimate to view the activated labor operation icons in the diagram window:
• R&R - Remove/Replace
• R&I - Remove/Install
• Repair
• Blend
• PDR
2. Select the appropriate labor icon from the diagram window. This will determine the correct labor times and costs for the labor operation you will use. In the diagram window, the number designating the part you added to the estimate is highlighted.

   

3. To view the details of a part with the selected labor operation, double-click on the part or the part number in the graphic. You can also double-click on the part in the list below the graphic.

   Note: SVG graphics support double-clicking on both the part image and the part number while PNG only supports double-clicking on the part number.



Note: When you add sectionable parts such as side-body panels to an estimate, you can add the appropriate refinish operations as part of the repair labor operations.

4. To modify the refinish labor, type the Total Units for the operation.
5. Click More and add any additional recommended operations.
6. Click Add Lines. A spinner appears while the lines are added to the estimate.

   The repair line is added to the estimate along with the refinish line and any recommended lines selected.

1. If there is more than one option for a part (for example, various models or sizes, right side, left side, etc.), you will see View Details on the parts list instead of a price for the part.
2. Select an option in the panel to view and modify the part type, part number, labor operation type and units, tax, and price. Click Select All to select all parts and labor operations and add them to the estimate

   Note: You can change all available options for each repair line before adding the part or labor operation to the estimate.

   

Note: The quantity of the part specified is multiplied by the price and appears in the repair line as Total Price and Total Units to indicate the totals for the repair line.

3. When you are finished making changes, click Add Line to add the repair line to the estimate.

View all options available for a part on a repair line for added parts where two or more options are available, even when one was already added to an estimate. This feature allows you to easily review parts options with fewer clicks. In a previous version of Mitchell Cloud Estimating, it was not possible to view available options where options were mutually exclusive. This required you to remove the part from the estimate and view options while adding it back.

Note: This feature does not include Templates (available for Toyota vehicles). If there are two or more mutually exclusive options in the template, and one of these options was added to the estimate, you cannot view the options.

1. On the Estimate Editor, click View Details next to the part you want to view all options.

   

2. Click Expand All. The previously selected option appears at the top of the list and is flagged with a check mark.

   

3. To add a different option, delete the previously added estimate line.

On the parts tab of the Estimate Editor, the reselection of labor operations such as Repair to Remove/Replace (R&R) used to be manually done by the appraiser or reviewer. The decision to change a costly Repair operation into an R&R when the cost to repair exceeds the replacement cost has been automated with two features:

View the Percent of Replacement

When a part is chosen for Repair, the Repair Breakeven calculation automatically displays on the part details window when adding parts and labor (repair lines) to an estimate. The Repair Breakeven assists you with making a better choice between repair and replace by automatically comparing the percentage cost of the two operations. The Percent of Replacement calculation section of the part details window shows the cost of New percentage as well as the Recommendation operation of Keep as Repair or Switch to R&R.

When the repair operation and labor involved exceeds the replacement cost, Mitchell Cloud Estimating recommends switching the Replace operation with Remove & Replace (R&R). Below the available parts for selection and their details, the Percent of Replacement calculation shows the percentage cost exceeding the cost of a new part. The minimum threshold percentage displays above the percent of replacement and recommendation for the selected parts.

Note: The minimum threshold is set to 100% by default but on the Repair Breakeven sub-section of the Estimate Profile Calculations tab, it can be custom set anywhere from 50% to 100% as desired.

This Repair Breakeven is only available when the Repair operation is chosen. The two recommendations are:

• Keep as Repair - The cost to repair is cheaper than the cost of replacing the part

• Switch to R&R - The cost of repairing the part is either equal to or more expensive than replacing and its recommended to switch out the repair operation. Click the hyperlink to update the repair to an R&R operation for the estimate.

View the Cost of Repairing vs. Replacing Window

The Percent of Replacement window , you can view the breakeven analysis details of a part repair. It displays a breakdown for both repair and replace equations where the percentage of replacement is derived from.

In order to understand how Mitchell Cloud Estimating calculated the percent of replacement value, select the colored percentage value or information icon under the % of Replacement column on the Repair Breakeven section of the Part Detail section. The Percent of Replacement window displays, breaking down the cost of repair versus the cost of replacement values and costs.

When the percentage exceeds 100%, the window recommends you switch to R&R.

Staff users can view Pre-Defined messages that you create separately from those created by profile managers in WorkCenter Appraisal.

Staff users can view Predefined Text Messages in Mitchell Cloud Estimating when adding and editing parts on an estimate.

1. Click More and select Add Explanation.

   

2. Click Add Predefined Explanation.

   

3. The User tab shows Predefined Text you added. The Company tab shows the Predefined text added by Profile Managers.

   

4. Select the Predefined Text to add to the Repair Line and click Insert.

   

You can filter the Parts by the left or right side of the vehicle. This helps reduce the number of parts that are displayed in the application, making it easier to select the correct parts.

1. From the Parts or Split View page, click Filter next to the search bar.
   
   

   

2. Click Left or Right to filter the parts by the side you selected, allowing you to easily add parts to the estimate without having to specify left or right each time.

Unqualified parts are grayed out in the parts list and you are unable to click on the part.

Disable qualified parts filtering to allow the selection grayed-out parts.

1. From the Parts page, click Filter next to the search bar.
   
2. Click the bar next to Qualified Only to disable qualified parts.

The Parts page will reload with the filters disabled. You will be able to select all parts for the vehicle repair, including parts that were previously grayed out.

You can compare the cost to repair a part or replace a part. Use an alternate parts profile to view the most cost-effective part chioce.

Note: The alternative parts profile must be configured with the Auto-Substitute Off option selected to use this feature. The compare feature is also available for recycled parts if the Auto-Substitute ON, Excluding Recycled Parts option is selected. The Operation for the repair line must also be set to Remove and Replace.

1. In the Parts or Split View tab of Mitchell Cloud Estimating, search for parts in the search bar or select a vehicle area and part (for example, Front Bumper).

   

2. Select the part or number in the diagram for the part.
3. Select the R&R labor operation.
4. Select the line for the parts you need to display the part description, labor type, labor units, part type, part number, price, and tax.

   

5. Click Compare to find an alternate part. A spinner displays, indicating that the parts are being fetched from the third party provider. Once the available parts are retrieved, the Compare Alternate Parts window opens.

   

   Note: For TruckMax Commercial Trucks, after market parts are available directly from the database as you write the estimate. You do not need to use the Compare Alternate Parts feature.

6. Select the desired part profile from the window and click Done.

   

7. Click Add Line to add it to the estimate.

   

8. The Aftermarket and or Recycled Part Vendor information appear on the estimate report (PDF).

   

Note: Insurance companies may require alternate parts when completing an estimate. The Required Part Comparison section in the Parts tab of the estimate profile allows the insurance company to enable required parts comparisons. With this feature enabled, you will automatically see the Compare button when adding parts to the estimate that meet the minimum price criteria set in the estimate profile.

1. As you select parts and labor operations and add repair lines to the estimate, you can see the current in-progress estimate total in the top right corner of the Estimate Editor.

   The total dollar amount will recalculate as you add parts and labor to the estimate. It is also updated as you edit or delete repair lines, change the estimate profile, or make changes to the existing estimate profile.

   

2. Click on the estimate total (dollar amount) to view the itemized Totals Breakdown. The following items are detailed in the breakdown that appears in the list window:
   • Labor
   • Parts
   • Additional Costs
   • Gross Total (Sum of above three figures)
   • Customer Responsibility (Less Customer Responsibility)
   • Net Total (Equals Net Total)

   

   The estimate total for committed or in-progress estimates also appears on the Jobs page in Mitchell Connect.
